Who we are
Our website address is: https://www.cogentica.com.
We’re a small group that wants to help disabled people. We’re not here to abuse your data. Here’s our privacy policy.
What Gets Saved?
Comments
When you leave a comment, the site collects:
- The data you put in the comments form
- Your IP address
- A “browser user agent string” that helps us stop spam
Also, it may create an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash). The hash goes to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. After we approve your comment, your Gravatar profile picture will show up on your site. This means the public can see it.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. If a visitor downloads the image, they can see this.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. This way, you don’t have to fill in your details again when you comment again. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to see if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data. It goes away when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, then your login will last for two weeks. When you log out of your account, the site deletes the login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, the site saves an extra cookie in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data. It just holds the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
We may embed content (like YouTube videos or pictures) from other sites. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. This includes tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
For example, if we embed a YouTube video and you watch it, then YouTube may add it to the list of videos you’ve watched.
How Is It Saved?
Who we share your data with
If you ask for a password reset, the email will include your IP address.
How long we keep your data
If you leave a comment, the site keeps the comment and its metadata indefinitely. This is so the site can recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you make an account on the website, then we keep the personal information you put in. You can see, edit, and delete your info at any time (but you can’t change your username). Website admins can also see and edit that information.
Your data, your rights
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. This will include any data you have given us.
You can also ask that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
The site may check visitor comments through an automated spam detection service.
